Our program is designed to meet your child’s special education needs while providing support and services so that they may one day transition back to a less restrictive environment to the greatest extent possible. We strive to develop students who can effectively direct their lives now and, in the future, to be successful in the environments in which they live.
We understand the importance of engaging families in the education of their child, and we welcome parents and guardians as members of our team. We strive to provide regular communication, updates, and meetings between home and school to ensure the family is abreast of their child’s progress.
Once enrolled, our experienced staff will review your child’s Individual Education Program (IEP) and modify our instructional areas to fit his/her/their educational needs. The Sheppard Pratt School provides 30 hours per week of IEP services to students in a supportive and structured environment. The school implements the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and curriculum guides from Maryland local school systems and provides individualized academic instruction aligned with grade-level content standards with accommodations to meet each student’s needs as related to the pace, depth, breadth, and complexity. Evidence-based strategies such as explicit direct instruction, prompting, and use of visual and hands-on supports are used to promote meaningful academic progress. Instruction focuses on building skills in literacy, math, social/emotional, and communication to support each student’s learning potential. Counseling, behavior support, speech and language and occupational therapy are provided on site in accordance with the student’s IEP and needs.
Because we are part of Sheppard Pratt, our staff has access to the best training, treatment practices, and technology, which in turn allows us to provide your child with the best education to meet his or her needs. We actively collaborate with other Sheppard Pratt schools and professionals to ensure we are sharing resources and best practices across all of our special education programs.
